We are committed to controlling the area’s burgeoning dog and cat population, so our spay and neuter surgeries are a top priority.

Surgeries are performed Monday – Friday, by appointment. Since we are so small, every pet is afforded special, individualized care during surgery. Your pet will need to be at the clinic by 8 a.m. The day of the surgery. He/she will be able to go home the same day, between 4-6 p.m.

Depending on your pet’s age and health status, comprehensive bloodwork is required.

We require that your pet be vaccinated prior to surgery or at the time of hospitalization. Specific instructions will be provided to you when you schedule the surgery. We offer all surgical and dental patients pre-surgical bloodwork to ensure their safety while under anesthesia.

Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital is off RM 620 at 301 Chisholm Trail, behind the McDonald’s on I-35. The phone is 512-900-2778. They are open for emergencies 24 hours on the weekend, Friday, at 6 p.m. through Monday at 7 a.m. They also are open 6 p.m.-7a.m., Monday-Thursday.

A second emergency clinic, Heart of Texas, is at 115 Old Settlers Blvd., a few miles east off I-35. Their number is 512-744-4644 or 512-351-4333. They are open every day of the year, 24 hours a day.

Collars and tags may not be as reliable as owners think, however, microchipping provides a permanent means of identification. A microchip includes a number, info about the owner and pet, and is added to a national pet registry. It is a simple injection given on the back of the neck, and can be read easily at any vet clinic that has a microchip scanner.

We offer a wide variety of vaccinations for our canine and feline friends. We strongly encourage you to keep all your puppy and kitten appointments. There are many deadly diseases that strike the young animals that aren’t vaccinated. Our vaccinations include:

Dogs, 1 yr and older

Annual K9 vaccination package includes:

• Exam
• Rabies
• Distemper/hepatitis/Lepto/parvo/parainfluenza
• Bordetella (kennel cough)
• Intestinal parasite screening to check for worms
• Heartworm test. We offer two heartworm tests. The cheaper version tests only for heartworms; the more expensive test checks for heartworms, anaplasmosis, ehrlichia and Lyme disease.

Both tests require a simple blood draw that takes about 10 minutes to run.

Puppies

1st set of shots: 6-8 weeks old. Includes exam, distemper/Parvo/parainfluenza, fecal exam
2nd set: 9-12 weeks. Exam, DHLPP, bordetella
3rd set: 12-16 weeks. Exam, DHLPP, rabies

Cats, 1 yr and older

• Exam
• Rabies
• Feline distemper (FVRCP)
• Intestinal parasite screening
• Outdoor/indoor cats are encouraged to also get the feline leukemia shot and FeLV/FIV test

Kittens

1st set of shots: 6-9 weeks old. Includes exam, FVRCP, FeLV/FIV test, fecal exam
2nd set: 9-12 weeks old. Includes exam, FeLV #1, FVRCP
3rd set: 12-15 weeks old. Includes FeLV #2, FVRCP, rabies

We also offer canine influenza vaccine as well as canine rattlesnake vaccine. For each of these, the protocol calls for your pet to receive the first vaccine and a booster one month later. After that, your dog needs the vaccine once a year. These vaccines are not available for cats.

Sadly, owners have to make the very hard decision to euthanize their beloved pets. Here’s how the whole process works. First, call us.

You may either stay for the procedure or leave your pet with us. You can take your pet home to be buried or we can call our cremation service. They can accommodate almost every need. You can choose a communal cremation in which ashes are not returned, or you can choose to have ashes returned.

You may choose to receive the ashes in a standard box or in an elaborate urn, depending on your wishes and financial needs.
